Obtain Military Service Records

Applying for and receiving veteran benefits requires you to produce a copy of your DD214 or discharge document. If you’ve lost or can’t easily find your DD214, here are two ways you might obtain copies.

Massachusetts State Database

The state maintains a database of DD214s and earlier discharge documents belonging to veterans who came home to Massachusetts following their service and received a Welcome Home bonus. Contact our office and we can check for you.

National Archives and Records Administration

The National Archives and Records Administration, or NARA, provides an online portal called “eVetRecs” for veterans to request their discharge document and other parts of their military service record. Here is the link to get started: https://vetrecs.archives.gov/s/

Additionally, the municipality you returned home to after service may keep a local archive.

In all cases, our office can help.
